Stephen has advised privately-held companies on their strategic alternatives for over twenty-five years. He is a passionate advocate for his clients and the outcomes they are striving to achieve. Stephen is intellectually curious and relishes diving deep into his client engagements to garner a profound understanding of the business and the motivations and goals of our Entrepreneur Owner-Manager clients.

Born and raised in Liverpool, England, Stephen began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. after graduating from Bristol University with a degree in Economics. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he specialized in mergers & acquisition advisory. In 1995, Stephen joined Grant Thornton LLP, and in 1998 he came to Boston, MA, to help launch an M&A advisory group for them in the United States, ultimately leading this practice as their National Practice Leader before coming to Bigelow. Stephen is also a graduate of the General Management Program of the Aresty Institute of Executive Education at Wharton.

Stephen is FINRA licensed Series 24, 28, 62, 63, 79, 99.

• What do you love most about EOMs?

  Their “Fire, Ready, Aim” approach to decision-making. All of the investors we interact with make decisions based on data, analysis and logic. Contrast that with all of our clients, they make decisions based on intuition, gut feeling, and emotion.

• Who is someone you admire? Why?

  The Queen, for giving a lifetime of service to her country. At times the Queen has not been a popular figure, within or outside of the UK. Many people might think “how hard can it be to be the Queen of England!” But think about being thrust into this role at the young age of 27, a role that was never meant to be yours–and spending the rest of your life serving your country.

• Favorite subject in school / high school?

  Geography. While, largely for practical career purposes I studied economics at University, I always loved geography. Driving around the UK on vacations seeing drumlins, tarns and oxbow lakes, and knowing how they were formed over 100s of years, really brought it to life.

• If you could magically invent a drug that would put you in any sort of mood, what mood would that be?

  Humor. I always try to find the humor in every situation, which may or may not be appreciated! There is something about laughter and making people laugh that I find very satisfying.
