Savage

Savage (www.savageservices.com), a North American leader in providing services to its customers engaged in oil refining, chemicals, coal production, electric power generation and the Class I railroads, sees the opportunity to extend a 63-year tradition of service by increasing its focus on specialized, customer-tailored transloading and handling systems. Savage owns and/or operates large bulk terminals for coal, petroleum coke, sulphur and other commodities; system-based transportation (truck, rail, barge and vessel) moving over 50 million tons annually of coal, coke, waste coal, waste ash and sulphur; and also provides on-site operations and management services for large power plants and oil refiners. Savage has over 140 operations in 35 US States and five Canadian Provinces

Savage Services Corporation of Salt Lake City, Utah (“Savage”) announced that it has acquired Safe Handling, Inc. of Auburn, Maine (“Safe Handling”). This transaction is the successful culmination of an initiative led by The Bigelow Company LLC on behalf of Safe Handling to proactively seek the “Best New Majority Shareholder” for the company, and in so doing, provide a liquidity event for Safe Handling’s current ownership.

“Safe Handling is a company that is known for its integrity and outstanding customer service. The addition of Safe Handling helps continue Savage’s legacy of providing ‘Best Value–No Worry’ service to customers, and offering creative solutions in solving our customers’ materials management challenges. We are enthused about the prospect of combining Safe Handling’s impressive suite of services with those of our own, and providing them in a system to our customers. We are looking forward to having the Safe Handling employees join our organization. Additionally, this move greatly increases our market presence in the US Northeast, and we are especially excited to move into the state of Maine for the first time in our history.” Allen B. Alexander, Chairman and CEO Savage
“I am gratified to have partnered our company’s services and expertise with those of Savage. With our great reputation and unique business model, Safe Handling is poised for significant growth at our existing operations in Maine and Pennsylvania, as well as across the continent. Joining strengths with Savage will lead to a great future for both companies, as well as for our staffs and our customers. To have been with Safe Handling since its birth in 1990, it is a pleasure to say with confidence that I cannot imagine any path forward more favorable than this alliance.” Ford S. Reiche, President Safe Handling
