50 minute listen

Chattanooga, TN

Gary Wilt and Pete have an entertaining and rapid-fire 45 minutes in Chattanooga talking about how Gary and his brother Terry’s journey resulted in the recent recapitalization of TAG Manufacturing, Inc. by CenterRock Capital Partners, LP.

Gary and Terry are serial entrepreneurs; two time Bigelow clients who have built two of the most significant brands and businesses in the construction equipment market in North America. Gary shares many bits of wisdom in his trademark, matter of fact, self-effacing manner, tracing his entrepreneurial roots all the way from his Granddad, laughing about starting with the first order written on a cocktail napkin, delivering the first orders from rented space with a dirt floor, and in his typical humble way, sharing some thoughts on the journey for other EOMs.

What I am Reading / Listening to

The Outsider (2020)
HBO

Contributed by Kim A. Errico

Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, this crime thriller follows an investigation that seems straightforward but changes very quickly when characters are forced to question everything they believe in.

In the first episode a young boy is found dead and security camera footage and witnesses implicate that Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) is guilty of the murder. However, his alibi proves that he wasn’t anywhere near the scene. After more digging, investigators find proof that Terry was indeed out of town during the murder but there’s also proof that he was very much in town, even spotted covered in blood on the day the boy died. How is this possible?

The Outsider gets even more unruly once private investigator Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo) enters the picture and uses her heightened perception skills to guide the detectives towards fresh intel. What begins as a relatively contained mystery based in reality, quickly spins into a story with broader supernatural and mythical implications. The ‘creepiness’ is consistent throughout and keeps the viewer ready for something horrible to happen at any second. Needless to say, I couldn’t watch this right before bed because the hooded ‘Blurry Face Man’ would make an appearance in my dreams.

For those who can stomach darkness and eerie mystery, The Outsider serves as a satisfying mix. I haven’t read many Stephen King books but next time I’m in the mood for a mystery I think I’ll consider one of his novels because I’m confident it will keep me guessing.
