Richard has managed numerous client relationships in distribution, technology, and service industries for U.S. and foreign clients. Owner-managed companies have found his experience, thought leadership, and sheer positive energy to be a highly valued resource, especially when they are contemplating business legacy. Richard’s operating experience includes serving as Vice Chairman and Director of Rock of Ages Corporation, the nation’s leading quarrier and manufacturer of specialty granites and granite products.
Prior to joining Bigelow in 1972, Richard served in a number of sales, marketing, and consulting positions with Universal Packaging, Unilever, and The U.S. Department of State. He serves on the Board of Directors of Pulse8 Medical Analytics (MD) an early stage health care company and has also served on the Board of several public and private companies, including Merchants National Bank, Hollis Automation, and Advanced Systems Inc.
Richard is an enthusiastic supporter of community programs, including board and trustee roles at such organizations as the United Way, American Management Association, Babson College, Boston Lyric Opera, Federated Arts, and many others. He also has a keen interest in coaching young entrepreneurs who are running early stage companies. He has been quoted in a number of publications including the American Bankers magazine, CFO magazine, The Boston Globe, and the Wall Street Journal.
Richard received his Bachelor of Science from Babson College, where he has served as Trustee for over 20 years, and has chaired several Babson Councils on Family Business, Entrepreneurship, and Global Business.
Richard and his wife Tina live in Boston and maintain a vacation home in the mountains of Tennessee near their children.
